Graduated from the University of Jos with second class upper and was called to the Nigerian Bar over two decades ago. He also obtained a Master's Degree in Law from the same University of Jos. He specializes in election related matters, civil and criminal litigation, constitutional law, commercial law (including recovery of debts), oil and gas and legal drafting.

He practiced law in Lokoja, Makurdi, Akure and Kaduna before moving the head office of J.J. Usman & Co to Abuja to continue his general practice of law.

He has a bias for election petitions and has appeared in all the superior courts in Nigeria, having conducted cases in about 30 states of Nigeria, with vast knowledge of civil and criminal law procedures.

He has handled various aspects of controversial constitutional, electoral, criminal, civil cases, commercial law and practice. He is also a Chartered Mediator and is involved in research.
